Dr. Bellmunt is Assistant Professor at the Universidad Autónoma de Barcelona and the Co-Founder of the Spanish Oncology Genitourinary Group (SOGUG). He is Consultant of the EORTC - GU Group since 2000 . He is also and ad hoc reviewer for the Journal of Clinical Oncology, Annals of Oncology, European Urology, European Journal of Cancer , among others. Dr. Bellmunt has published over 70 peer-reviewed articles, in addition to over 100 abstracts and book chapters.

His research interests are in Clinical GU Oncology, new drugs, and in translational
and early clinical research in the area of growth factor receptors and downstream molecules as targets for cancer therapy . He has been involved in the clinical development of several new agents and combinations including M-CAVI combination in unfit patients, PCG triplet, Carboplatin- Gemcitabine, GW2016, 2C4, Vinflunine and other agents.
He is an active member of the European Society of Medical Oncology and of the American Society of Clinical Oncology. Dr. Bellmunt has been member of the Program GU-Committee of ASCO 2003-2005. He is member of the EORTC GU Group and the Coordinator of the Intergroup study in advanced transitional Cancer (EORTC 30987) and Co-coordinator of the EORTC 30986 study in unfit patients. He is also member of the EORTC Sarcoma Group.
Dr Bellmunt received his M.D. degree from the Universidad Autonoma of Barcelona in 1982. And his Doctorship (PhD)-Cum Laude at the Universidad Autonoma of Barcelona in 1989. He obtained his European Certificate of Medical Oncology in 1989 in London. He performed the Medical Oncology Residency at Vall d'Hebron University Hospital in Barcelona.
He has been assistant from October 1985 to December 1987 at Laboratory of Immunology (Dra. T. Español) (Hospital Infantil de la Ciudad Sanitaria Valle Hebrón.) and visitor at the Clinical Immunology Service ,Division of Medical Oncology, and Department of Immunopathology at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center, New York in 1987 and 1989. At the completion of his residency , he joined the staff at the Medical Oncology Service of Valle d'Hebron being since 15 of June 1988 to december 2005 Responsible of the Uro-oncological Unit.
He has recently been appointed (January 2006) Section Chief of Solid Tumor Oncology (GU & GI) at the Medical Oncology Service of Hospital del Mar in Barcelona.
